CCM collected!
26Jun09
Well, it’s official. I’m a collector. And This happens to be my first bicycle that I’ve put together (sort of) for a friend. I’m not sure what year this old bike is, so if anyone knows, let me know!
On the other side of things, there’s a cruiser bike ride at 8:30 at the Stanley Park roundabout tonight… park ride, bring lights! Hope to see you there!

I picked this bike up on the weekend. Good ride... needs TLC.

Nice bike! I just picked one up very similar to yours but in blue. I did some research to find that I have a CCM Rambler bicycle so its possible yours is a variation on it. Depending on the head badge, built in at least the 1940′s (mine has a Vancouver registration sticker that says 1946 on it)
Hope that helps
R U guys sure those double bar bikes are Ramblers? Do they have 24 in. wheels? The reason I am asking is because I have a Rambler in my collection that is in very good condition. It has a single curved top bar, what we used to call street cruisers and what they like to call comfort bikes now. These bikes do not have double bar or cantilever type beach cruiser frames and have 24 in tires. I am asking, hoping to find out if CCM made 2 Ramblers.
I have 4 CCMs almost identicle and so I assume they are all Ramblers. 3 are CCM maroon and 1 is gold in colour. One is clearly marked CCM Rambler. 1 is marked CCM and the other 2 are not marked at all.
They are in good shape except the headbadges are missing. None of these have the CCM sprocket as your bike in the picture does. I also have several larger CCMs with curved bars and 26 or 28 in wheels. Some of these are very old. Most have |CCM sprockets. The Turnpike Cruiser and old Beach Cruiser have 28 in tires. The adult Banana bike has a 24 front and 26 rear. Additional information would be appreciated.
Hello, the CCM bicycle that you have is called simply a “Balloon Motorbike”. From your picture, it was probably made in 1953 or 1954. It also was likely painted green when it was made (either a solid mid-green or a candy-apple green). The rims are Westwood style 26 X 1 1/2 F12′s which originally had 26 X 2″ (Canadian-size) balloon tires. It is now difficult (but not impossible) to find large tires for these rims (the Canadian 26″ balloon tires are a different diameter than the rather common American 26″ balloon tires). CCM made this particular style of bicycle from around 1952 to 1962. The more recent versions came in a metallic blue and had Endrick type 26″ rims.

Thanks John. I have since sold this to my next door neighbour, who is really taking good care of it! He loves it!
@John I just read an article in the Edmonton Journal about you. I have a few old CCM bikes that I can’t seem to find any information about them. One of them is a tandem. I was wondering if you might be able to help me out. My email address is dicky.smith@yahoo.com
Hi John W.
I am doing some research on CCM Red Bird. The serial number is 6D7283 which makes it a 1940 I think. When I first showed a picture to a fellow out east he thought it was a 1925 CCM Red Bird, Motorbike “Roadster” The bike is complete except for tires. Can you give me any info on this bike.
Thanks,
Brian
